Children and young people in Croydon will benefit from enhanced support this September, thanks to a coordinated effort by the Town Centre Taskforce to ensure a safe and positive start to the new school year.

The Taskforce – a partnership between Croydon Council, businesses, police, youth engagement services, community and voluntary organisations, health teams, and homelessness support services – is working together to make the borough cleaner, safer and healthier for everyone.

Taskforce partners will be highly visible in the town centre and other areas, engaging with young people, signposting services, and offering support as they transition into the new term.

“Supporting our children and young people to thrive is one of my top priorities. The Town Centre Taskforce is a great example of Croydon coming together to create a safe and welcoming environment for every young person in our borough. By working in partnership, we’re making sure they have the support they need – not just at school, but in the community too.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon

The enhanced support include:

  • Croydon BID Rangers ensuring safe after-school experiences
  • Project 4 Youth Empowerment being visible during weekdays and offering activities in their Youth Space
  • Croydon Police stationed at schools and transport hubs during peak after school hours
  • School Pastors accompanying students on Friday journeys to transport hubs
  • Anima Youth supporting marginalised young women and girls in the town centre
  • Change Grow Live providing outreach on substance misuse and wider support services
  • PlayPlace delivering youth engagement in New Addington
  • Be Inspired promoting positive choices in Thornton Heath

This collaborative approach reflects Croydon’s commitment to ensuring every young person feels safe, supported and empowered as they return to school.
