The official notice of elections has been published for the local elections on Thursday 7 May 2026. Croydon residents will take to the polls to choose their candidate for Mayor of Croydon and 70 ward councillors.
To vote in these elections you need to register to vote by midnight on 20 April. Registering to vote is quick and easy – it only takes minutes. Find out who is eligible to vote and how to register to vote here.
Registered voters will receive two ballot papers, a white ballot paper for the Mayor of Croydon election and a yellow ballot paper for the ward councillor election.
Voters will be able to vote for one candidate only for the Mayor of Croydon. Find out more about the role and responsibilities of the Executive Mayor.
Voters will be able to vote for between one and three candidates in the council elections depending on the ward they live in. Read more about the election of Councillors.
Those voting in the elections will be required to show photographic identification at all polling stations. This is a new, legal requirement for all UK elections following the Elections Act of 2022. Find out what photo ID is accepted here.
The votes for the Mayor of Croydon elections will be counted on Friday 8 May whilst the votes for the ward councillors will be counted on Saturday 9 May. The results will be shared as soon as possible once counting has completed.
