A wellbeing space has launched at BOXPARK Croydon as part of the Council’s ongoing work to tackle violence against women and girls.

HERSANA, a partner in Croydon’s Town Centre Taskforce, has created SANA Spaces – the first initiative of its kind in the borough’s night‑time economy.

HERSANA has partnered with BOXPARK Croydon to ensure that women and girls have access to immediate, trauma‑informed, practical and emotional support during events. This reinforces the message that this is a zero‑tolerance space for abuse.

The initiative offers a calm, inclusive environment where visitors can seek help if they feel unsafe, become separated from friends, or need assistance to get home safely.

The SANA Spaces wellbeing team works closely with BOXPARK’s security, medics and management, as well as Transport for London and the British Transport Police. Together they create a visible safeguarding presence during events, so no one is left isolated.

Women also have access to trained first-aiders, independent advocates, and information and resources on gender-based violence awareness, consent and bystander intervention.

The collaboration forms part of the Council’s Town Centre Taskforce, which brings together partners committed to making the area cleaner, safer, more welcoming and inclusive.

SANA Spaces is a mobile, trauma-informed safe and wellbeing hub created and delivered by HERSANA CIC to provide a caring, calm community at public venues, festivals and events.

Christabel Yeboah, Chief Vision Officer for Operations at HERSANA CIC, said: “SANA Spaces place care at the centre of events. Working with Croydon’s Town Centre Taskforce and alongside BOXPARK’s team, we have created something truly new. This initiative is designed so women and femmes can go out unapologetically, dance without fear and get home safely. Our space is trauma‑informed, culturally competent and grounded in trust, connection and community.”

“We are proud to support this important partnership between HERSANA and BOXPARK Croydon. SANA Spaces sends a powerful message that everyone should be able to enjoy a night out without fear. This initiative reflects our commitment to making the borough safer and ensuring support is accessible to those who need it most.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon

Jonny Duck, General Manager at BOXPARK Croydon: “The safety and wellbeing of everyone who visits BOXPARK is extremely important to us. We welcome this partnership with HERSANA, which brings specialist support directly into our venue. SANA Spaces shows our commitment to creating a safe, inclusive environment and making sure every visitor feels protected while enjoying their time with us.”
